Bear Lake has been a favorite local band here at Now It's On since I first came across their music back in the MySpace days. Things have been quiet with the pop/rock group since the release of their 2012 EP Pierre On The Loose which was capped off with a release show at a packed Magic Bag in Ferndale.
Thankfully, my fears that yet another local favorite has come to an end appear unfounded as the band is just on hiatus. While we wait for the next Bear Lake project, two of its members have teamed up for a new one. Steve Stetson and Erik Pederson have formed Tin Legs whose first release, the EP The Needle Knows came out in March.
As I continue to catch up with 2015 releases, I couldn't let this one get past me.The Needle Knows is five tracks of pure pop music, with the same emphasis on memorable hooks and choruses that first hooked me on Bear Lake's music. Look no further than the EP's first track "Tell Ya I Won", good luck getting that chorus out of your head. EP closer "Get To Dance" sums up the feel of this collection, this is pop music to dance to and let loose to. A pleasant little surprise while we await the next Bear Lake project.
