Once again I have Noisetrade to thank for introducing me to another upcoming talented artist. Los Angeles based singer/songwriter Denny White is the latest whose music has reached me via the free download website. Noisetrade has become an absolutely essential resource for finding new music I might not otherwise get to hear, even through all the other places I check each week for the newest releases.
The Colors EP is the first release from White and it places him on the musical map as one to watch. The first thing that struck me about White's music was how much he reminded me of another artist I'm particularly fond of, Andrew Belle. From the sound of his music to his voice, it would be easy to fool an Andrew Belle fan that he has released some new music. But I know of many that would confuse Belle's music for that of Mat Kearney. Let's just call Colors what it really is, a top notch collection of solid pop songwriting and melodies.
Everything on here is perfectly suited to find a wide audience. It's accessible without being cookie cutter, it's melodic and catchy without being cheesy. The title track opens things up and it ranks as the best track of the five with an instantly memorable chorus. "Otherside" is an acoustic guitar based mid-tempo ballad with White showing off his impressive vocal range. "Lost And Found" is a string soaked beauty of a ballad and things close with the piano and vocal balladry of "Run And Hide".
Colors serves as the perfect introduction to Denny White's talents. Five perfect, mature pop songs in just over 18 minutes, a tantalizing taste of an artist with the potential to make a big splash with the right break.
Colors was self released as a digital download March 11, 2013.
